To everyone who reads my blog (not a lot I think =P),

Hello everyone! I am going to start to post entries that only friends can read because I post quite a lot of school stuff and it's best to keep pictures of my kids and school more private.

So to all friends, please send me a note so that I can add you as a friend....for those without a livejournal account, you just need to sign up only!

Thanks!

Sweet potato harvesting!

Oct. 25th, 2009 | 07:32 pm
mood: cheerful cheerful

On Friday, I invited Nagi-chan and Ikue chan to my house for a round of nabe! And we ate sooo much! There is still a lot of food in my fridge that we didn't managed to finish...so I don't have to go to the supermarket ths week at all!
Then the next morning, we went to Ikue chan's house in Mizuho to dig some some sweet potatoes!

Here is the view of her family's farm....these are egoma....a type of sesame that is special to this region and is also a local speciality. It tastes really good and is also very good for health!

We were supposed to dig sweet potatoes but apparently freshly dug sweet potatoes aren't sweet....you have to leave them for about a week before they start to be sweet, so I brought the previous bunch of sweet potatoes I dug from Karasuda san's farm and we decided to roast sweet potatoes!

First, we started with the bonfire.

We had to gather firewood to start the fire! Reminds me of how people in the olden times have to 砍柴生火!

Nagi chan and her firewood haha.

We went back to check on the sweet potatoes after a while and they are already done!! So fast!

Yay! Roasted sweet potatoes!

Next, we left the bonfire to die out and started out sweet potato harvesting.

It's very difficult! You have to use the shovel and carefully dig up the soil around the sweet potatoes so that you can pull them out. And you have to be careful not to break any of the sweet potatoes....we broke a lot =P

Me with the shovel....I sweated so much!

Some of out sucessfully dug sweet potatoes!

Looking for our sweet potatoes...

These are what we found! They are really black on the outside cos we ran out of aluminium foil and just threw them into the heap of firewood hehe...but once you break them, they are really good inside!

Ikue chan's house.

Their warehouse.

The kei truck that we took to the farm. Me and Nagi chan sat on the back and it was like a roller coaster!

The view outside her house....a really peaceful village.

The first signs of autumn...

There is a small drain outside her house, where apparently the water comes from the river nearby. They wash their vegetables here and we washed our dirty boots here as well haha.

Ikue chan and home-made okonomiyaki!

Me and Nagi chan with the huge okonomiyaki.

A really nice lunch served by Ikue chan mama!

Next, we went to see their chicken farm! Ikue chan's father has a chicken farm and they sell eggs they get from the chickens. Today, the ducks are out for a walk!

These are the chickens! I have never seen black chickens before....apparently they are hardier against diseases.

They have 3 hyper active dogs that couldn't stop barking and pouncing on us once they saw us!

Me trying to be part of the flock hahaha

5th graders 交流学習 at Kawasho

Oct. 22nd, 2009 | 10:46 pm
mood: tired tired

Today the 5th graders had their 交流学習 at Kawasho. Essentially it means that all the 5th graders from the 3 schools in Kawamoto get together and interact through lessons.
The 2 lessons that were selected for today's session are PE and English.

For PE, they played omunikin ball.....for people who don't know the game, it basically involves the students running around ensuring that a huge ball doesn't fall onto the ground. They are divided into 3 teams by colour and the first team will shout "Omunikin RED" and punch the ball away then all the red members have to go catch the ball before it falls on the floor! Then once all members are supporting the ball, it's their turn to should omunikin (colour) again and the other team will have to catch it.

It's quite fun because it involved a lot of teamwork and strategy-thinking....like you have to punch the ball in the direction where there are no members of the particular colour you want to say. Then once the ball hits the ground, your team gets a point. In the end, the teachers played against the kids and I was roped in too! It's just 4 teachers and we are BLACK and the kids kept shouting our colour! I missed once cos I thought the kids shouted "kiiro!" instead of  "kuro!" =P but it was really fun!

Then after the PE lessons, we had English! The theme for today's lesson is food and my flashcards had words like soup, bacon and eggs, cereal, pretzel, muffin, cookies, water, lemonade, hot chocolate etc etc etc.

The first game after going through the flashcards with them is the Peanut Relay!
There were 6 teams so I asked Shimogaki sensei to prepare 12 tables, 6 on each side of the room. There is an empty plate on one desk and a plate with red beans on the opposite desk. The goal is to take all the red beans from one end to the other....but the trick is that they can only use chopsticks!
So the game goes like this.....
Ready go! Students will run with their chopsticks to the table on the opposite end of the table, flip over a flashcard and read what is on it, then pick up a red bean with their chopsticks and run back! Then the next person starts again....

The first time I played this game, I used soy beans which are bigger..but this time we used red beans and it is very hard!!! The kids just couldn't pick the red beans up! Some spent a very long time trying to get one red bean onto their chopsticks hahaha....but some of the kids were fast! They are the good chopsticks holders hahaha....one team finished really really fast cos all of their members could use the chopsticks very well!

Next game is the FIshing Game!

This game was actually planned for the 3rd and 4th grade 交流学習 at Mihara tomorrow, and Yagiura sensei had helped me make fishing rods from disposable chopsticks and thread and magnet. But since the 5th graders are having a combined lesson too, I thought might as well! So I had the 5th graders play it too!

Basically, the same 6 teams have to use their fishing rods to fish as many cards as possible that are placed on the ground. Each card as a paper clip on it so that they can fish it with their chopsticks. It was really competitive because the cards are not of the same number....some are less while some are more. And to make things more exciting, their fishing rods kept getting entangled! And while 2 kids are trying to loosen their entangled rods, another team will try to steal their cards!

All in all, I think the kids enjoyed themselves very much which is good! Now, for tomorrow's combined session with the 3rd and 4th graders.....

Next week's theme - Halloween!!!

I am doing a Halloween Obstacle Course hehhee......featured items are Halloween Twister and Halloween Costume Karuta! =DD

After today's class, I went to an onsen with Ikue chan! I cooked dinner myself...had mushrooms with carrots and chicken....seasoned with my mixture of miso, soy sauce, mirin and sake and it turned out really nice! YAY! Tried boiling sweet potatoes in water with sugar but not sweet enough...sigh...will try again!

Girly stuff...

Oct. 20th, 2009 | 10:07 pm
mood: happy happy

Ikebana for Sept...

and Ikebana for Oct!

I have been doing the tate katachi (vertical position) for a really long time already and I think I am going to ask sensei to teach me other positions...I want to try the diagonal one!

Anyway, I have been a naughty girl and looked at the online shops again and am tempted to get these heheheh.
Aren't they pretty?? Which one should I get...hmmmm

Lilac dress
レース付チュニックスーツ(チュニック+スカート)

Navy blue blazer with white linings.

テーラードジャケット

Blue printed dress

プリントワンピース(キャミソール付)

White and Black dress - makes your legs look really long!
異素材切替シャツワンピース

Cream satin dress...v good for wedding dinners!

バイカラーワンピース

And I want to get another small bath mat! Now I am thinking of the zebra one hehehe...will buy the zebra mat only cos I just don't need another full set.  =D

I finally went to the aerobics class that I had meant to go about a year ago.....I asked Ikue chan to go with me and she said ok! But the instructor isn't Uyama san today..it's a different guy who looks so much like a gay but he wears a wedding band! eew....hhaha
Anyway, he speaks sooo fast and his CD kept skipping, in the end although I did sweat a little, it wasn't as bad a workout as I thought it would be. I want to try Uyama san's lesson!

Fri is going to be Nabe day! Ikue chan and Nagi chan are coming over to my place for a nabe party and I promised to make Goreng Pisang for them because Ikue chan isn't going to be around for Agricultural Festival. Then Ikue chan is staying for the night and we are going to her house on Sat for sweet potato harvesting! Following that, I need to come back for Taiko practice and another enkai with the Taiko mates because Satsuki san's son is coming to Kawamoto and since I stayed with Satsuki san in Denmark, it would be nice to meet his son and show him a bit of hospitality. Then Sun off to Jomon Mura!

Busy busy week!

Oh....plus I must try a few recipes that I promised to make for Ethel when she comes! If it turns out mazui (not nice) it would be so paiseh! hahahahaha

Online shopping!

Oct. 18th, 2009 | 04:26 pm
mood: happy happy

I was at the 100yen shop over the weekend and I saw the latest Nissen catalogue. When I went to Akita in summer, Anna was raving about Nissen stuff and she herself bought quite a lot of stuff from there....so I had always wanted to look through Nissen myself.

Finally, I did and I bought all these stuff at a pretty good price!

I had wanted these for my kitchen and toilet cos my mats are getting impossibly dirty and even more impossible to clean. Time to get a new one so that my feet won't freeze in winter!

I decided to buy this chicken kitchen mat! Isn't it cute?? But the one that I bought is a 150cm long one, so it only has 2 chicks.....the 2nd chick is not there hehe.

Then I got this for my toilet! Sorry for the pixelated picture cos the website didn't have a decent sized one for this design. Initially I thought the mat couldn't fit into the toilet but it did! So this is in my toilet now =D

Then, as I was surfing through the site, I saw the SALE link and of course I went to look inside! hehehe

And so I bought these too!

コンビネゾン

They are all less than 2000yen, the last one was only 1000yen...so cheap!!

I am still waiting for a poncho to come in cos they are out of stock...and really tempted to get this coat but it's 8000yen (not on sale) sobs but it's not really feasible to get another coat cos I have only one winter left here....but nice right!!

アンゴラ混コート

Then, I also placed an order for Placenta Extract over rakuten.com because I was reading Fan Wenqing's blog (Fann Wong's sis) and she was raving about this product that she got from her sis (ie Fann) who was also raving about it when she gave it to her. Since Fann has porcelain skin, I decided to give this product a try!
The product that she was raving about is actually Placen10, but I got the Placenta Extract cos I was confused when I read the description on the BB Lab website.  I thought Placen10 was a facial spray that you use a few times throughout the day but in fact it is just a serum...so I got the Placenta Extract...but still ok la I think!

The thing is because this product comes from Japan, I am able to buy this straight off the Japan dealers! She got her Placen10 for SG$120 but Placen10 is selling in Japan for about 4000yen MAX, ie about half price! wheeeeeeee...the joys of living in Japan!
But I bought Placenta Extract so it cost me 6000yen (darn...) Shall buy Placen10 the next time....

Plus, I recently booked my air ticket (12,100yen) from Hiroshima to Tokyo on  the 19th Dec to catch my flight back to SG....so this month's expenditure is GONE liao.....cannot spend le sobs

BUT I still love online shopping in Japan hehehehehe

Busy weekend

Oct. 4th, 2009 | 10:53 pm
mood: tired tired

This weekend was really busy...I didn't really have enough time even to do grocery shopping! Have to make a trip to Oda on Tue to stock up on food haha.

Anyway, on Sat, there was a tempura party! I have been saying that I want to learn how to make Japanese food for the longest time ever and finally Yumi san and K-chan decided that we shall have a tempura party! The menu included tempura(of course), nasu miso itame (stir fry eggplants with miso), sweet potato pudding (courtesy of Betsy) and Goreng Pisang!

We arrived at Acoop in Misato at 10am to buy ingredients and we bought so much! After that, we headed to Daiwa to a small kitchen area where we started our cooking!

Look at all the ingredients!

Starting to fry the eggplants.

Everyone busy at work....I am busy taking pictures =D

The tempura batter.

Ki chan prepares the goreng pisang while Karasuda san looks on.

Testing the temperature of the oil. If the batter rises up immediately, it means that the oil is hot enough.

In goes the banana!

Goreng Pisang!
Actually the goreng pisang's batter is a special tapioca batter that Karasuda san bought from Indonesia. I had specially prepared one piece of banana in the normal tempura batter because Mihara is going to try making Goreng Pisang tomorrow from normal tempura batter and I wanted to try the taste. BUT Karasuda san ate it!!! Ki-chan had left it in a small plate and I had meant to eat it later but Karasuda san saw it sitting there by itself and ate it!!!! So now I don't know how my goreng pisang will turn out with tempura batter tomorrow SOBS.....

Wendy and Mei chan preparing to fry the different ingredients.

Look at all the food! There were 10 of us and enough food to feed 20!

Yay!

Ki chan, Yumi chan and Sayuri chan enjoying the food!

Then, after the party, I rushed home and prepared to set off to Hamada with Betsy. We are supposed to stay at Greg's place for one night in Hamada before setting off to Yamaguchi for the monthly flea market. We had food from the tempura party and Greg and Lexi had baked a mikan cake so again, we had lots of food! Then, we watched a French movie and played Mario kart haha..

Next morning, we set off to Tsuwanoto pick up Leonard and off we went to Yamaguchi!

There was some art event going on and there were a lot of banners hanging from the bridge. Reminds me of Tibet haha..

There were lots of antiques at the flea market and lots of cheap yukatas and kimonos! Greg bought lots of old coins.

A very old piano that has a really short keyboard!

Stalls selling plates and cups.

Teapots!

Flea markets - you have to dig!

Kimonos for sale! Betsy bought a lot of nice and cheap yukatas...500yen each!

Look at all the old magazines and toys!

Old telephone!

Water Buffalo tusks.

There were even samurai swords!

I bought some cheap stuff and rilakuma stuff for my kids, went to walk along the Yamaguchi shopping arcade and headed back. It was a four hour drive so we were really tired by the time we reach home but it was a pretty fun event!
Tomorrow is Goreng Pisang making day with Mihara....I hope it will turn out well! =P

Sweet Potato Harvesting!

Sep. 16th, 2009 | 09:28 pm
mood: happy happy

Went for ikebana on Thur and this is my new ikebana piece!

And on Mon, I went for sweet potato harvesting! We planted the seedlings in May and now it's time to harvest them!
Me and Betsy climbed into the back of Karasuda san's little kei truck and off we went to his farm!

The seedlings have all grown to full sized sweet potato plants!

Yay! The harvest!

They have grown really big!!

Me harvesting!

Time for yaki-imo!

We managed to pull out 2 crates of sweet potatoes! There are actually a lot more but it was getting late and 2 crates is really more than enough so we set back to Karasuda san's house for dinner!

The place after we have done our work!

We had really delicious sweet potato tempura and boiled sweet potato, courtesy of Ki-chan! I always love eating at their place because Ki-chan is a really good cook! We are going to have a cooking lesson too and I am looking forward!

Meanwhile, I am leaving for Denmark tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it! It would be a really interesting experience travelling with Japanese, and somemore, with my Taiko group! Although we wouldn't be able to do much travelling cos we are performing, but it would be a really unqiue experience I think! =DD

I bought new flowers! Including a pot of roses hehehe.

My ikebana last month..it was Obon in August, ie Ching Ming Jie and so the flowers are different from the usual ones I have. There is this long broomstick looking plant that I have never seen before and dried lotus..apparently they are flowers used commonly during Obon.

I went with Ikue chan to Jomon Mura, a vegetarian restaurant that I have wanted to try for a very long time already...and it was so beautiful!!

Vegetarian dishes...buffet style, all prepared by the owners...home-grown organic vegetables!

Ikue chan enjoying her somen!

Yay! I realised my fringe looks really weird now.....I have to cut it soon!!

The restaurant! Very rustic feel =D

Went to a recycling workshop where we made things out of things like paper cups and pet bottles.

Sample - Penguin! I wanted to make a penguin too!

And so, this is mine!!

Finally visited the Iwami Ginzan after being here for a year! We had to walk 45min to the entrance of the mine, so we decided to rent a battery-operated bike! haha....the assisted bike is very easy to peddle!!

Saw a wooden vending machine!! Actually it's a wooden frame for the vending machine haha

I am finally here!

The entrance of the mine.

Inside of the mine...

I bought more kit kats! Fruits flavour, biscuit kit kat,  apple vinegar, kinako kit kat =DD

I went with Ashley and Drake before their Eikaiwa welcome party to Nakagawa san's farm....I asked Koshima sensei how to go to his farm before going and managed to get there without getting lost! The sun was setting and it was really pretty!

We could see Kawamoto from his place!

Very pretty isn't it?

Bittergourd! I got one from him hahaha

Green pepper and paprika!

I don't really know what crops these are haha...

The presents I got =D
Bittergourd, pumpkin, green tea and A LOT of onions and potatoes!

Summer Holidays and total nua-ness

Aug. 20th, 2009 | 11:34 am
mood: lazy lazy

OK...yes yes I haven't been blogging for the longest time ever and even I don't know where to start haha....
Jasmine has been blogging in Japanese and actually so have a few other friends but I am just too lazy lah.....must think very long leh!
So....back to English! YAY...

It's the summer holidays...1.5 months of sheer bliss for the kids...and 1.5 months of nua-ing for me. Ok...I haven't done a lot of nua-ing until recently cos my schedule was really packed for the first half of the holidays!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went to the 5th graders' camp (camp again) and it was the day when the solar eclipse happened! We only saw a partial one but it looked like the moon! I was still very excited anyway.
Looks like the moon right!
I followed one of the groups on their obstacle course...and first was this bridge! It had rained pretty heavily the past few days so this was a real log bridge! It's actually pretty hard! One of the girls fell in...oops!
Then, they have to climb rope ladders, climb rocks using a rope and clear obstacles set by the teachers.
Then go through dark tunnels and emerge victorious...
get stung by loads of mosquitoes...*scratch scratch*
Climb more logs and scale to the top...
only to climb back down again...
More zig-zag log climbing and crossing a tight-rope bridge (there is only one chain as your foothold!)
After conquering the slope, the secret agents had to climb through a hanging tunnel and do some spiderman stunts...
send a signal back to the headquarters and go down a secret ninja slide...
and do some tarzan-roping.....orh-ee-orh!!!
YAY! Completed the ninja secret service training course!!
The next day, we had a talk by the forest rangers and we used bits from the nature to make photo frames!
This is mine!! But very flaky...it keeps shredding hahaha...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Next, I had an English workshop that was organised by the library. I did it together with Hana san at the support centre with my kids and I had a lot of games planned out! One of the best game is called Peanut Relay which they have to race to a table and pick up a peanut with their chopsticks and race back to put down the peanut and read a flashcard. It was really hot so they were really sweaty after a while...me too!!

Then, off I went to Hokkaido, Aomori and Akita! I really really enjoyed myself and saw a lot of beautiful scenery (although the weather wasn't perfect), ate a lot of food and met Auntie Anna!! We planned our trip back to SG together and we are going to stay in Tokyo for about 5 days before heading back to our homes in Japan! YAY...looking forward...

After 2 weeks of holidaying, I came back to Kawamot and met Ashley and Drake, the new ALT in town ad her husband. They are really nice and Drake really can cook! I hope I can sample some of his cuisines someday! I brought them to Hiroshima on Sunday and we bought so much foreign food! I am really excited at my finds! I bought green beans, wanton mee, oatmean with maple and brown sugar, a lot of premixes and some dried food that I could only get in Singapore! YAY!

Had a lot of Taiko sessions too....had one at the Coming of Age ceremony in Kawamoto, followed by another one at night(some matsuri) and another one at Izumo Taisha the next day! The Izumo Taisha one was nearly cancelled due to the rain but luckily it cleared up! Also, they threw out mochi and sweets to the crowd and I caught a lot! Too bad I didn't eat the mochi right away, and it got moldy! SOBS I had to throw all of them away!....

And so, this 1.5 week, I have been nua-ing a lot...so much that I feel really unhealthy! I just go to the BoE inthe morning, play with facebook and read books, then go home for lunch and just nua at home for the rest of the day! I have almost finished my tian long ba bu 40 episode drama just by staying at home!!!

Huaquan is coming to visit this Sun and Mon and I asked Ashley and Drake along to Izumo Taisha as well. I have been there umpteen times but everyone would want to go there since it is the oldest shrine in Japan.

Ok...time for me to go have lunch and go to the recycling workshop in the afternoon! Then more TV watching and Taiko practice!

The summer sale is here!!!

Jul. 7th, 2009 | 07:49 pm
mood: happy happy

I went to Hiroshima over the weekend to take my JLPT 1 for the FIFTH time....I really really hope I can pass this time...although I checked some of my answers online and it seems like I will have to take it for the sixth time this Dec!!! SOBS.....I am hoping by some miracle that the answers I forgot are all right or something SIGH...

But anyway, I had a REALLY good time shopping! I spent so much!! But they are all good buys cos my most expensive purchase is my yukata, 5000yen and that is already the cheapest yukata I can find! The rest of the stuff I bought are all like 50% off or like 1000yen! Really cheap!!

Me, Yumi san and Ki-chan headed out to Hiroshima on Sat, and our first stop was lunch! We had lunch at a restaurant serving french food...it has been a really long time since I had French food!

Salad, cheese and egg tart, mixed peas with bread...

I love the bread!!

Main course - Scallops!

Yumi san's chicken, which came on a hot stone and made a lot of steam haha...

Dessert - Chocolate cake!

Check out the amount of stuff I bought! It almost feels like I went to some other country! Or maybe cos I haven't shopped for too long....went mad in Hiroshima haha...
Well...1/4 of the stuff here are bought at the 100yen shop and half of them are little gifts for my students...my "Flying Pig" shop is opening next week! My students will use their totoro dollars to come shopping at my shop!

And the purple cloth thing is my yukata! The obi that came with it was a cream yellow colour that we thought didn't match, so we changed it hahaha! We didn't tell the shopkeeper though (Well, it's at Uniqlo so there wasn't someone attending to us anyway) and we just changed it! HEHE.... The pyjamas that I bought were only 880yen!

2 of the dresses I bought....there is one more dress but that dress is more flowy and doesn't look nice lying down so I didn't take a picture hehe. The blue dress was on 30% off and the green one 50% off! I didn't pay more than 3000yen for either of them!

This looks like a normal sweater but it is actually a swimming "rush guard", as they name it. You wear this over your swimming costume so you won't get sunburnt! YAY! I can go swimming at Kawanishi and Mihara with this!

A white plain top to go under my dresses...both tops cost only about 1000yen!!

2 light jackets for summer!

And I bought a new watch! The strap of my current one is on the brink of breaking....like only 2 strands of strings left at the part where it is breaking so I better not wear that anymore!! This is my new one! =D

I must start saving again so that I can shop in Hokkaid! I love the summer sale!!!

Why do little boys hate people hugging them?

Jun. 23rd, 2009 | 06:54 pm
mood: amused amused

It all started when the whole school was in the gym doing their fitness test. (Very much like NAFA just that their shuttle run is different and they don't have inclined flexed arm hang) My students like to hug me a lot...especially the girls. So there was I with 2 girls clinging on to my and one of my favourite 6th grade students came over and made a puking face. Apparently, he disapproves of the girls hugging me...in his words, it's "kimoi", which means disgusting. So much like the boys of that age.

But, just out of fun and to see how his reaction will be like, I reached out to try to hug him. OH you should have seen how far he jumped away from me!! It was so hilarious! I tried a few times to hug him and he would always have a very shocked expression on his face, like really xia4 dao4 and jumped very very far. It was getting interesting to see his reaction so I decided that I will try to ambush him. Well, I don't really want to hug him but his reaction is so funny that I can't help but pretend that I really want to hug him.

Then, during the 6th period, I went to join them for a teeth-brushing lesson by a dentist. At that time, I was carrying my stamp and Totoro money that I give out to the students because I just came from the first graders class who wanted me to stamp their passports. I sat beside him and he wanted to see the Totoro money. But because the students are always trying to steal the money, I told him that if he were to take any then I will hug him...and he agreed!

So, OK I let him count the money and then he returned it to me. At the end of the lesson, the form teacher returned me some extra money which was apparently under the desk. SO....he hid the money under the table!!! SOOOO how can I miss this wonderful chance!!! Immediately, I said "HUG!!" and he was trying to deny that he took them (of course he did) and he stayed about 2m away from me! HAHA...when I went out of the classroom, I stood just outside the door, and when he saw me, he took a double take and exited from the back door. But he still has to come down the same corridor so he stayed at the back door for very long!! He said that there is a "wall" where I am and he can't cross HAHAHA

Tomorrow, I am going to try to ambush him again since he owes me a hug!!! HAHAHHA

Fireflies!

Jun. 16th, 2009 | 09:03 pm
mood: excited excited

Yesterday, I went to Mihara Day-care centre and I had a really fun time playing with the kids! There is this very cute boy called Seiya..his face is ROUND! And he is SO cute!!! While they all are preparing for lunch, he actually fell asleep while sitting in his chair! And the thing is, He couldn't keep his eyes open!! We tried waking him, shaking him, pinching his cheeks and his eyes would not open! Or like they would open one wee crack and go shut again. I brought him around for a "walk" around the lunchroom and he walked around with his eyes shut!!! haahah he was SOOO sleepy!! In the end a teacher brought him to wash his face and gave him stuff to eat haha...then he woke up! HAHA

But the silly boy wouldn't go to sleep when they are supposed to sleep! I had to pat him for sooo long before he would actually sleep! I like sleeping time cos u actually have to sleep with the kids..otherwise they wouldn't sleep so that means I can sleep for a while too! heheheh....

Then I went to Hello Hello for my Jap lesson as usual and mentioned casually that I want to see fireflies....and Karasuda san actually brought me to see fireflies! There is actually a specific time to see them...usually between 8 to 9, but it was already past 9 so they were afraid that the fireflies would have gone to sleep already but we still decided to go and try our luck. And we saw a lot of fireflies!!!!

They are so amazing! Like little stars flying around...and the sky was so clear I could really see a lot of stars! The fireflies were mostly resting on the trees already instead of flying around but it was really really a very amazing sight. I couldn't help but get super excited when I saw the little flickering lights....how do they actually do that?

It's my first time seeing fireflies and I want to see them again!! Apparently I can see them very near my place so I am going to go look for them! hehehe

Tomorrow, I have swimming lessons with the first, 2nd, 5th and 6th graders and I am looking forward! Although my swimming suit is a bit too tight and it's not the diving suit that the teachers usually wear haha bo pian la!!

Bicycle Competition + Kawasho Camp!

Jun. 14th, 2009 | 10:41 pm
mood: tired tired

I still remember complaining a few months ago that I have not much things going on in my life and I wish for random people to knock on my door and ask me out for dinner. Well, I would still love to have neighbours knocking on my doors giving me food and stuff (which doesn't really happen) but I can't really complain about the LACK of activities now. In fact I have TOO many activties that they all clash together! Argh!!

On Sat, I went to Kawasho because they have a regional bicycle competition. The competition is divided into 2 categories. One is a safety test much like our driving test, except that theirs is on a bicycle. They have to follow a routined course which involves pedestrain crossings, junction, red-lights, hazards, train crossings etc and they have to put out hand signals to act as winkers. I cannot do it cos I can't bike with one hand! I have been watching them train for quite a while already so I decided to go and give them my support!

The safety cycling course. The people judging are real policemen!

Kazuki kun stopping at a pedestrain crossing.

Tomoki kun preparing to stop. There is even a hand signal to stop! And they have to check all directions before they go and to do that, they will check and say "Yosh!" So you will hear "Yosh! Yosh! Yosh! Yosh! Yosh!" before they start pedalling. =D

The next category is the "Technical test", but I call it the Acrobatics Test. The kids have to go through several courses that require pretty high technical skills to control the bike. I went through it before during their practice and I failed miserably. It is SO hard!!

There are 6 courses in all. 25s course, in which they have to keep the bike on this straight path for at least 25s, ie they have to move VERY slowly. Next is the S course, and they have to navigate this with one hand on the bike only. Next is SUPER S course, where they have to weave in and out of 8 standing pins. Next is the figure 8 course, and then a path much like train tracks, very very bumpy and the last course requires them to cycle on top of 2 planks of wood.

Hiroki kun on the 25s course. They have to keep within the green area. Every time their feet touches the ground, there will be marks deducted.

Next, the S course!

The train track course.

2-plank course! Most people can do one but not both.

And the most difficult SUPER S course!

In the end, Daiwa Elementary school won first and 2nd...apparently they have always been winning this competition since like 5-6 years ago. The kids there train almost everyday! They sent 2 teams and both teams won first and 2nd, and all top 5 individual winners are from Daiwa! But Kawasho isn't that bad too! The A team won 3rd! So happy for them hehehe...

After the competition, I rushed over for a one hour Taiko practice. Actually there is a full day Taiko practice today but cos of the Bicycle competition and the camp, I couldn't go for Taiko and I really need to practice my new song! DIE LAH....
Then, after one hour of practice, I rushed back home to cook curry (Japanese one lah....my nonya chicken curry paste no more le sobs) cos the Kawasho camp is a curry party! Everyone will bring their own curry and we will sample each others' curry =D

Rushed like siao and bathed and then hoped into my car, and rushed to Sasayuri, and realised I forgot to bring my jacket and ladle for the curry! So paiseh....in the end, Itoh san (Kasumi chan's mother) lent me her jacket and a spoon for the curry..

Kasumi, me and Shiho chan! Shiho graduated last year so I was really happy to see her there! She is still the same....bubbly and very teenager-like. And she grew so much! Takafumi, another one of my student grew 10cm in 3 months...he is my height now! SHOCK...

Kitayama san introducing all the curries the families brought.

The curries!

The curry I made! (It's in the silver pot)

Shiho chan, Momoka chan, Daiki kun and Kasumi chan!

And the eating begins! The pot that is right at the front is cabbage curry and it reminds me so much of Singapore curry!! I want to eat Singapore curry!

Momoka chan and Daiki kun are looking at Sasaki sensei's camera instead! But they are very pleased that there are 2 cameras taking them at the same time haha....they are sooooo cute!!!

Momoka chan!!!!

After dinner, there was campfire marshmallow roasting, a horror trail where we need to go through this path with only a torch and fetch a piece of paper. I went with the little ones cos they were really scared (but actually it's not scary at all..it's just dark) but when I finished the trail, Shiho chan and Kasumi chan grabbed me and insisted that I go with them again. hahaha they are even more timid than the kindergarten kids! So In the end, I went up twice haha..

After that, there were fireworks!! It's so fun! There were the big fireworks which go off with a loud BANG and then shoot up into the sky and explodes, very much like the NDP fireworks but on a much smaller scale hehe....

After that, I went home and after struggling in bed, I reluctantly got out and headed off to the camp again. Scavenger Hunt is supposed to start at 830am but when I got there at about 845am, they were still having breakfast...then after some playing around in the field, Scavenger Hunt began!

We are supposed to retrieve 3 pieces of paper and decipher the codes on the papers. I went along with the Yoshimura brothers, Takafumi and Naoyuki and their mum. They were really good!

The boys figuring out the clues.

Deciphering the code.

Last clue!

After lunch, I left to go Oda cos I haven't done my grocery shopping in 3 weeks! Gasp! But I am amazed my petrol can last me for 3 weeks hehe....I went to Shimura and bought a bunch of stuff, including a pair of track pants, a light jacket for sunny days outside, a dryfit top, a beige overall, a pair of white shoes and goggles! Wanted to buy an umbrella initially but decided against it since I won't really use it although it is so cute! Then bought my grocery stuff at Jusco and topped up my petrol! Car wash was having a promotion....shampoo wash (I think its just soap and water) for 200 yen! So cheap! So I went to join the queue haha....since weather is predicted to be fine the whole week, I decided to wash my car!

Now super tired, tm need to go Mihara child care centre! Play with babies again hehehe

Updates again!

Jun. 6th, 2009 | 07:22 pm
mood: sick sick

On Thur, I had a rice planting experience with my Kawanishi 5th and 6th graders. They didn't plant rice this year cos the uncle in charge of the plot of land they are supposed to do rice planting isn't in good health this year, so they couldn't do it.

Instead, they invited some people from the agricultural committee (I think) and they taught the kids to plant rice out of a bucket!
First, you put soil inside a bucket, then water...the water has to cover the soil by about 5cm. Then you mix it up so that it becomes quite muddy. Then you plant the rice sprouts inside the bucket. About 3-5 stalks per bunch and 3 bunches per bucket. You have to space them apart because new rice sprouts will grow out from the existing rice sprouts.

I actually saw, for the first time in my life, how rice grows! You put the rice grains in water and little sprouts will grow out of it...they look like beansprouts. Then they will grow into green stalks and then people usually plant the green stalks.

After doing bucket rice planting, we went to a small little plot of land behind the school and spread plastic sheets over it because they want to plant rice there. The kids have previously emptied the soil out of the plot, so the plastic sheets go at the bottom of the plot. Then, we all have to put the soil back into the plot with shovels! Wow...that was HARD. Everyone had to rest after a while cos it was really quite tiring! In the end, after 2 lessons, we could only have time to put the soil back into the plot...no time to fill it with water or plant the rice. I think it will be done by the time I go back next Thur!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Fri, I went to Mihara and realised that there is a BEAR ALERT hahaha....apparently some villagers spotted a bear near Mihara and it was announced. So the kids were all fetched to school instead of doing their usual walking groups...and then driven back too. The bears are usually shy and don't attack people but just in case, since these are little kids and they may not be able to fend for themselves if the bear really attacks them! It's for precautionary measures but actually I would want to see a bear! From far lah....hahha
And Hibiki san sang the whole "It's a small world"! I am really amazed by her memory...she could even sing 茉莉花 in CHINESE cos the song appeared in their music textbook. Really must applaud her memory and language skills.
I must teach them more English songs! I am starting with Twinke Twinkle Little Star =)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Today I was supposed to go watch a Kagura performance at Kawasho but I am down with flu!!! AGAIN!!! I get it every 2 months I think...have no idea why. My teachers say its cos of the difference in temp cos its starting to turn really warm and so the temp becomes cold and hot and cold and hot over a few days. I turned up at Mihara with just a slight sorethroat and at the end of the day, I have totally lost my voice.

So today decided to stay at home and rest la....instead of spreading my germs to the kids who will be at the Kagura performance. Luckily tomorrow is also a zuo bo day so I can rest at home. Must quickly recover cos my upcoming weekends are ALL packed! Next weekend, there is the safety bicycle riding meet (the winners get to go to Tokyo Disneyland!) at Kawasho so I really want to watch it and then followed by a simple camp at Sasayuri. Actually there is Taiko practice on the same day....don't think I can go though..or maybe sneak a few hours between the bicycle meet and the camp.

Following weekend, I have Kawamoto Tubing on Sat where a lot of ALTs will come and tube down Gogawa, followed by a BBQ after that but I have a Taiko performance so will have to sneak off for a while. Then Sun, there is another Taiko performance at Higashi Izumo.

Then, 27 to 28 June I am going to Oki for an International cultural exchange camp where I will teach the kids Singapore games! I am intending to get them to make zero point and five stones to play hahah.

Then, weekend of 4th to 5th July I am heading to Hiroshima for my JLPT exam again!! SIGH dunno if can pass or not this time cos I don't have time to study!!! Supposed to study today but ended up watching TW dramas all day...hehehe BUT cannot le!!! MUST STUDY le!!!

THEN, 11 to 12th July, I am going Okayama for Jeff's farewell, which is organised by our eikaiwa class....actually 11th July is Tsune san's wedding, which is held at Izumo Taisha and the Taiko members are supposed to perform too but then I am going Okayama so I can't go. I would love to see a Japanese wedding but then again, I will need to give ang pow (I think) and the ang pow for Japanese wedding is CRAZILY expensive! It's like 30,000 yen standard rate, ie $450!!!! But you get a lot of thank you gifts in return la but then I also dowan the gifts la!

Then followed by a 3 day long weekend, of which there is a camp at Kawanishi but its mostly on Fri, ie last day of school before the summer holidays and then a regional swimming meet on Sat that I really want to go to. So I have time to rest n Sun and Mon only haha.

Then it's the start of summer hols but as usual, I am so busyyyy. 21st is the summer walking tour that I will probably go, then 22nd to 23rd is a summer camp for the 5th graders of Kawamoto and then 24th I have an English workshop organised by the library. The kids will all be my kids but it's a chance for me to do games that I don't have the time or space to do in school. Hana san will also be there to help so it will be great!

Then 25th July is the Kawamoto summer festival and I will head to Hokkaido and Tohoku after that! There is actually a Kawamoto swimming meet on 26th but too bad I am heading to Hokkaido so I will probably have to miss that!

Then Aug the new ALT who replaces Jeff will be here, so will probably be busy showing her around.

I will be spending so much money cos I have to spend for my Denmark Taiko trip too! Koji san told me on Thur that I would probably have to play for 5 songs and I am only done with 2!!! WAH dunno how I am going to learn 3 songs in 2.5 months when I took about 6 months to learn my first song. FAINTs.....
Supposed to go Taiko today too but then cos of flu...cannot go again..

Tomorrow I shall nua at home too.....maybe go and buy some groceries only hehe SAVE MONEY!! =D

Japanese ikemen!

Jun. 3rd, 2009 | 11:31 pm
mood: giggly giggly

OK I think I am a little too old to be drooling over shuai-ges but some of the Japanese ikemen look really good!

My all-time favourite is still Tamaki Hiroshi, although he still looks the best in Nodame Cantabile. He is a little too skinny now...but I am looking forward to the Nodame movie that is coming up!

All my kids know this and they have resorted to calling me "Tamaki senpai" and claimed that me and Tamaki are secretly married and that we have a long distance relationship and have always asked me to show them my "ring". They changed "sensei" to "senpai" cos they think sensei is too formal. HAHAHA

BUT, I have a new favourite!! His name is Mukai Osamu and I already think he looks pretty good in Nodame and he is looking even better in Atashinchi no Danshi!

Just in case you think I am a pedophile, Tamaki is one year older than me and Osamu is ONLY one year younger than me! I am NOT drooling over 18-year-olds...although that is the Johnny's trend now...SIGH...

I have always taken a liking towards guys with small eyes and single eyelids with sharp noses. Although Tamaki has pretty big eyes haha but his overall look is the kind I like! ie, I don't like guys with big eyes and look very pretty like a lot of Japanese boys haha...

Some more eye candy!

This is a Korean called Kim Bum - He appears as Ximen (Nishikado) in the korean version of Hana Yori Dango. He looks good too! But SO young...1989 sheesh...

Actually there are a few koreans I like....like Shin gun from Goong....also same kind of look but all too young laaa

I shall just be contented with "Tamaki Senpai" hahahaha

First Sleepover!

May. 30th, 2009 | 09:37 pm
mood: bouncy bouncy

Yesterday, Kawasho finally had its welcome party for the newcomers and because Moriyama sensei and Omura sensei stays pretty far away, Hara sensei had asked me earlier if they could stay at my place for the night since I don't drink so I can drive. Of course t's OK!

So, we went for Kuhai, 空海, where they had pretty good food! I will try to go back again sometime. We had a really fun time and there was a quiz session where each new teacher would come up with 2 questions about themselves and we would guess the answer. There were so many hilarious questions like

1) Who does my boyfriend look like? (Moriyama sensei)
    a) Gorilla
    b) Some bodybuilder on DVD
    c) Jero
    Answer: C - and the winning team gets to see a picture of him HAHAA

2) Which of the following actions actually happened?
    a) I went to school on Sun
    b) I forgot to do homework after a 3 day break.
    c) I slept a whole day and woke up at 7pm, thinking that it is 7am, got dressed and asked my mum to bring me to school and was    laughed at!
   Answer - C!

3) Special contribution by Inoshita sensei
     Which of the following items have I NOT brought back from a hotel before?
     a) The power cord for the heating pot.
     b) Room Keys
     c) Hotel pamphlets
Answer - C! Wow....Inoshita sensei actually brought back the power cord!! HAHAH

4) Special contribution by Kyoto sensei.
     Which of the following hilarious mishappenings actually happen?
     a) In an attempt to go to the broadcasting room, she actually went into the Men's toilet. (They are next to each other)
     b) While trying to call Kawamoto JHS, she called Kawasho by mistake.
     c) While trying to copy materials, she accidentally pressed in a huge number, causing the photocopier to print endlessly....
Answer - B! I was actually just beside Kyoto sensei when it happened so I knew.....the conversation below...

    K - Kyoto sensei
    H - Hara sensei

    *Ring ring ring....*
    H: Moshi Moshi, Kawamoto shogakko desu
    K: ... *Ka-ching!* - hangs up the phone.

The most hilarious thing is that Kyoto sensei and Hara sensei were standing about 1m apart only!! Kyoto sensei called and then heard the phone just beside her ring and actually saw Hara sensei pick up the phone! HAHAHA!
After that, Kyoto sensei admitted that A also happened! hahahah

The senseis also arm wrestled Shimogaki sensei to show us a picture of his girlfriend who apparently is his high-school sweetheart! They have been together for 7 years already! wowww......

After a hilarious night, Omura sensei and Moriyama sensei came over to my house and Yamane sensei and Wakatsuki sensei also came too (although they stay very near haah). We spent the night talking and THE topic that girls like to talk about came up inevitably - the question of boyfriends and marriage haha....I learnt a lot of secrets yesterday night!

But they were still talking when the light is off and all of them are in the futons! I tried to follow but ended up drifting off to sleep hehe...so I lost a bit of secrets there =P
The next morning, I vaguely know that they woke up and was up and about but when Wakatsuki sensei woke me up, I realised that they are all ready to leave and have folded the futons and cleaned up everything! Wow....I must have been sleeping like a pig hahaha....after they left, I went back to sleep and  only woke up at 11am with a stiff neck. Muahahahahaha

Went for Taiko and now have big blisters on my right hand...

Birthday Party Part 2!

May. 26th, 2009 | 09:21 pm
mood: surprised surprised

Today is Kawasho Day and once I stepped into the staffroom, my fellow teachers were all wishing my "Happy Birthday!" and Inoshita sensei even asked everyone present to sing a Happy Birthday song to me! hahaha....so paiseh but very pleasantly surprised that they remembered!

What is more is that they have a "Tanjobi kai" today, ie all the people born in April and May will sit together and have lunch together, followed by some simple activities organised by some students. We went into a classroom where the kids have put up decorations and a "Happy Birthday" (in Japanese of course). There were quite a lot of kids born in April and May, including the principal and Moriwaki sensei. Misaki chan, who shares my birthday, sat beside me =D.

We had Japanese chicken rice, omelette with ketchup, salad, milk and yoghurt! Quite a feast cos there is desert today and during lunch, there were quizes and "magic" shows and even present giving! I got a nice bookmark made by the students hehe...it was really nice eating with the kids and having a "birthday party"!

Birthday in Japan!

May. 25th, 2009 | 09:59 pm
mood: happy happy

Today, 25th May, is my Birthday! Yaaay...clap clap!
Ok...actually I am a little too old to be so happy about celebrating bday cos as I get *ahem* older...the pressure of "finding someone to get married" becomes higher and higher. BUT, it is still my first birthday since I came, so there's a reason to rejoice!

I bought a cake yesterday when I went to Oda...so decided to help myself buy a cake to celebrate my birthday hahaha. Wanted to buy a prettier cake but then there wasn't a lot of choices, so settled on the Mont Blanc cake cos I haven't eaten it before too anyway. =D

The Mont Blanc cake I bought for myself from Oda!

Yay! Me and my birthday cake!

Making 3 wishes...one of which - That my back will STOP hurting!!!

Blowing out my candle hehe...

Other than this, I didn't really celebrate it cos not a lot of people know that it's my birthday today and cos it's not a school day today, it means me going into the BoE and rotting the morning away, answering emails and facebook messages. Came back for lunch to have Chicken Rice I made yesterday! My first attempt at making it....not very successful though but at least not bad for a first try lah!

After lunch, I watched Fight Club on DVD and it was really good! Although I don't really quite get the ending hehe....
Then, at 3pm, I set off to Kawanishi for an English kenshuu with the teachers. Me and Mishima sensei did an Eikaiwa-like lesson with the teachers and got them to talk about what they did over the weekend. It was really quite funny listening to the teachers speak English cos I only speak Japanese to them...so it was quite funny seeing them struggle with Eng hehe...

Then, I came back and finish watching Fight Club, sunned my blanket and made Okara with Cabbage, Carrots and Sausages for dinner. Simple and very healthy cos Okara is actually Tofu extracts, very rich in fibre!

After dinner, I set off to Hello Hello and came into a room to see this on the table!

This Tofu cake is made by Karin san! This cake has no eggs, sugar, butter and milk! It's a vegetarian cake! haha. I decided that I wanted the heart candle and proclaimed that I am 18 years old! =DDD

Karin san cutting the cake! It tasted pretty good!

These are my presents!! Ok the froggie weighing scale is bought for moi by moi! YES, I FINALLY bought a weighing scale hahaha and I got a shock the first time I stood on it! ARGH....
A lot of the pressies are from papa and mama and ethel! And the 2 floral cases are actually cases for my Taiko drumsticks and flute made for me by Kimiko san! She asked me to bring my flute and drumsticks to her yesterday so that she can make the cases for me...so sweet!!

I shall put Patrick in my car tomorrow =DD

AND, I got a durian cake!!

HAHAHAH...fake one laaaa but this message was written on it! "沒魚蝦也好"!!! OK lah....i qing cai a bit and eat this "durian cake" lah!!!

Happy Birthday to myself!

Ikebana + Sports Meet

May. 21st, 2009 | 10:53 pm
mood: busy busy

Went for Ikebana class last Thur and this is my new masterpiece!

A closer look!

On Wed, we had an inter-regional (ie, Ochi gun) Sports Meet, much like our Interschool Track and Field Competition. I asked to go cos I have been going to see the kids train and so I want to see them perform at the actual meet!
It was predicted to rain a few days earlier, but the clouds shifted and we were blessed with a very hot sun!

Kawanishi and Mihara kids resting in the tent, waiting for their turn.

And the Kawasho kids preparing!
Kawasho has a really cool cheer. The usual cheering chant goes like this
"Ike ike XXsho, ganbare ganbare XXsho" and they keep repeating it.
Kawasho's is like this
"G-U-T-S GUTS! Kawasho! G-U-T-S! GUTS! Kawasho!
Ike ike (ike ike) Ose ose (ose ose)
Ike ike (ike ike) Ose ose (ose ose)
GUTS! Kawasho!"

And they repeat the chant. Isn't it cool?! Kawashois the only school that has a proper cheer! So proud...=D

Shoya doing the high jump. The poor boy had a fever the morning, 39deg! And he still had to compete in a few events....he was 1st for 1000m boys last year but this year he didn't perform well cos of his fever..zannen. But he got a third at high jump!

Haruka chan  came in first at her 100m heats!

The 5th graders Team A came in first for their 4X100m relay heats!

Passing the baton!

In the end, all my Kawamoto schools didn't win any event haha....the other Ochi schools are really fast and good! Kawasho is one of the biggest schools but I guess they aren't fast enough....last year there were a few kids who are very fast but they have all graduated and gone to JHS already. But there are also some lower grade kids who are quite fast so hopefully in a few years' time, they will run really fast!

Today my flute came but I don't have enough breath to keep the sound on for long...must start training!

Update - 9/5 to 17/5

May. 17th, 2009 | 08:51 pm
mood: happy happy

On Tue, Wakatsuki sensei invited me and 2 other teachers to her house for dinner. I went with her to the supermarket to pick up some stuff and then we went cooking! I was quite excited cos Wakatsuki sensei is Kawamoto's food nutritionist so she does know how to cook!

We had Tofu hamburger, which is something that I have wanted to learn for a VERY long time and I finally had the chance too! And then, we also had boiled bamboo shoots, a simple salad, miso soup with mushrooms, nonya chicken curry which I made from the easy pack, and stir fry potatoes with pork!

It was a really good dinner! And A LOT of the ingredients actually came from Wakatsuki sensei's hometown in Izumo. Almost every dish has something that is home-grown! Onions, potatoes, lettuce, bamboo shoots, miso and even the tea we drank!

Look at the spread!

The tofu hamburger!

Halfway through preparing the dinner, Karasuda san called me to say that she has strawberries to give me!! So they came all the way from Misato to give me strawberries and a roll cake! Aren't they sweet? =D

I had a pretty good time talking to Wakatsuki sensei and the 2 young teachers, Shimogaki sensei and Yamane sensei. Both of them are fresh grads and this is their first job...so they are still pretty inexperienced and you actually can tell from the way they talk about certain things haha. The kids actually haven't really gotten used to them and when I spoke to my 5th graders, they told me that Shimogaki sensei can't explain things as clearly as Masumoto sensei...but I guess everyone has to start from somewhere...so they just have to ganbatte!

Then, on Thur, I went with the 5th and 6th graders to Gogawa to release Ayu, a type of fish, into the river! My students from Mihara came too so it was a decent crowd size....it was so interesting!

On the way to the river!

Queueing to collect the fish!

Here they go!!

It was pretty fun cos I released the fish into the river too! Too bad I missed the rice planting...but I will plant sweet potatoes this weekend at Karasuda san's field! Looking forward hehe.....

Then, this weekend Betsy and me went over to Anu's house at Izumo to stayover so that we can go to Horanenya on Sat. It's a once every 12 years festival, so we definitely have to go! Photos are on facebook so not posting here.

Anu's house is HUGE! Her house is about twice the size of my house and she even has a koto!!! I want a koto too!!! But then like all other people, she only lives in her living room haha. We went to Horanenya on Sat and parked illegally at the prefectural office's carpark haha but we didn't get a ticket muahah.
We had lunch at an Asian food cafe and they had Bak Ku Teh and Gado Gado! I was so excited but turns out the Bah Ku Teh tasted quite differently and the chilli was more salty instead of spicy haha but I was still happy I got to eat it =P

Sat was my Chinese birthday so I had to wake up at 530am to cook my own mian xian breakfast cos we need to leave for Matsue at about 630am cos the festival starts at 830am...we wanted to take the train but we got the timings wrong so we ended up driving to Matsue instead. The festival was interesting although it was SO crowded! I couldn't really take nice pictures cos I was practically taking pictures over people's heads....no choice la cos the festival is one of Japan's 3 biggest boat festivals and it only happens every 12 years!

But cos it was raining, we left in the afternoon, and went back to play Mario Party! It is quite fun playing with Anu and Betsy haha and now I am itching to buy at least a Game Cube (cos I can't afford the wii) so that I can play at home! Then we watched Da Vinci Code on TV cos it was showing and then we went to watch Angels and Demons the next morning! Haha...we planned it in such a way so that we will watch Da Vinci Code first then Angels and Demons!

It is my first movie since I came to Japan and although it was EX (1800yen), the movie is pretty good! I quite enjoyed it actually...much better than Da Vinci Code I feel...and there are a lot of other movies coming to Japan! I am so going to go watch Transformers 2 (20 June), Star Trek (29 May), Harry Potter (15 July) and maybe Terminator 4!

Plus, I found an online website that I can rent DVDs and they will send it to me! After I am done, I just need to post it back....I can use my DVD player I bought from Kumamoto! YAY!!
